Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB is a special version of Windows 10 that allows business customers to benefit from updates to their functions. It is designed for some computer systems that require service updates over the years, but do not use many Windows 10 applications. These include ATMS, point-of-sale systems, or computers that control medical equipment. Such computers usually perform only one specific and important task. Therefore, they do not need to update the functions relevant to a classic office computer.
Stable and secure operating system for companies
Computers with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB should be as stable as possible and protected against external threats. Changes in the user interface are not very significant for these devices. For these reasons, the LTSC or LTSB licensing model prevents computers from receiving shared feature updates. Only regular service updates that ensure security are logged. So it’s the Windows 10 version without the app, store, Cortana and Edge. Therefore, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB is not a system designed for everyday office use.
Version with long-term support
LTSB means “long-term service department” because it is a department of Windows operating systems supported up to 10 years. Of this, 5 years falls on the standard period, and another 5 years can be purchased as an extension. In 2018/2019, the service industry will be renamed “Long Term Servicing Channel” (LTSC). Unlike the “semi-annual service channel”, which is common in the office, features are never updated via LTSC. Instead, a new version of the system Operational LTSC is released every two to three years, and users can decide whether they want to upgrade to this version or stay with the original purchased version for up to 10. The workload of their own IT staff can therefore be minimized using Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB.
Slim operating system architecture without unnecessary applications
Each new version of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB will support new processors. This is guaranteed by the “Standard Support Policy”, which is respected by recognized operating system manufacturers. In this sense, there will always be a version of the business operating system that matches the newly developed processors. The LTSB version has the same features as the semi-annual version of the Windows 10 Enterprise service channel. However, applications with PCs intended for people, such as Outlook Mail, Calendar, OneNote, Weather and Messages were omitted. Windows 10 LTSC increases the performance of computers designed for example to control machines, telephone systems, embedded systems in ATMs or kiosks.
Updated license templates
Sometimes Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2019 is also called “Windows 10 1809”. This provides professional IT decision-makers with an understanding of many different versions of Windows 10. In addition, in 2018 the manufacturer of “windows” combined their subscription models “Current Branch” and “Current Branch for Business” in the form of a “semi-annual channel”. At the same time, LTSB became LTSC. However, the principle of long-term delivery still applies. Less frequent updates mean fewer changes that potentially destabilize the computer system. IT staff have less work and can devote their time to other tasks. A smaller application size also means that fewer individual software problems can cause the entire system to crash.
